Junior Achievement Program- Third Grade
Students from Francis Lewis High School visited on Thursday, March 13th to provide third graders with information/resources about work readiness, America's free market system and how it acts as an economic engine for businesses and careers. Students were able to identify characteristics of a free market, gain an understanding of entrepreneur/entrepreneurship, discussed the high growth and high demand jobs, and explore how the United States is tied to the global economy.

The experiences supported national and state standards in reading, mathematics, social studies, and work and career readiness.
High School Students Bring Agriculture to Life at PS 14

Students from John Bowne High School in Flushing, Queens, recently visited PS 14 to share their knowledge about agriculture with younger students. The high schoolers read a delightful story called The Pie That Molly Grew, which captivated the audience and introduced them to the concept of agriculture in an engaging way.

Following the story, the high school students led a hands-on activity where they taught the PS 14 students how to make pumpkin pie without needing an oven. Using simple ingredients like milk, vanilla pudding, pumpkin pie filling, and cinnamon, the children mixed everything together in ziplock bags. They then served their creations on granola graham crackers, allowing the students to enjoy their very own homemade pumpkin pie.

This interactive experience provided the PS 14 students with a fun and educational opportunity to learn about agriculture and the process of making food. The event was a great success, leaving the young learners with a sense of accomplishment and a tasty treat to enjoy.

ArtsConnection- Linking Learning and The Arts- Grade 1
ArtsConnection has brought innovative arts programming to millions of New York City Public School students, including students here at PS 14 The Fairview School.  Their organization is founded on the belief that art possesses the power to deepen our collective understanding, encouraging students to think critically and  introducing them to new avenues of creative expression.  ArtConnection's research based programming not only promotes literacy and communication, but sharpens student's talents, better equipping them to navigate the world as socially engaged citizens.  No student in New York City should be deprived of a vibrant arts education due to lack of access. ArtsConnection partnered up with PS 14 offering free arts classes in puppetry to our first grade students.
Mets "Ya Gotta Read!" Contest - Grades K-5
The Mets launched "Ya Gotta Read!" in 2017 to foster a love of reading in students.  The more children read, the more they succeed in school.  It's also linked to expanding knowledge and vocabulary, improved attention span and memory and increased curiosity and imagination.
Thanks to a partnership with the Amazin' Mets Foundation and Delta Air Lines, the program has expanded to impact a total of approx. 55,000 students at 45 elementary schools in Queens and the Bronx, including us here at PS 14Q The Fairview School.
